The CEM 2020 Panel Discussion and Live Q&A

The panel discussion featured finance and policy experts, Dr. Devon Gardner, Programme Manager – CARICOM Energy, Ms. Kim Griffith Tang-How, Director of Customer Solutions at the Barbados Light and Power Company (BLPC), Ms. Angella Rainford, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Soleco and Rekamniar Frontier Ventures, and Professor Chandrabhan Sharma, Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine campus.
Dr. Gardner set the tone for the discussions noting the strides CARICOM member States have made to increase renewable energy usage throughout the region and stressing the need for improved policy and regulatory frameworks to achieve the region’s renewable energy targets. The panellists followed suit speaking on the essential need for regional energy independence, integrous corporate governance and transparency, increased technical capacity and energy accessibility, and energy market diversification.
