The Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE) welcomed CARICOM Governments developing clean energy projects to take advantage of the services offered by the Project Preparation Facility (PPF). CCREEE launched the Public Sector stream of the facility on May 4, 2021, six months after the launch of the PPF Private Sector Stream.

The PPF supports investment and development of sustainable energy projects in the Regio by providing technical assistance, advisory support, and financial matchmaking for regional energy project developers, investors, and financiers. Having launched the private sector stream last November, the PPF is now at full operationalisation.

The virtual launch hosted a roundtable discussion with energy actors across the region. Executive Director of the CCREEE, Dr. Gary Jackson moderated the discussion which covered financing strategies for energy projects, building resilience in the region, and fostering youth participation. The discussion included valuable contributions from Ms. Francine Blackman, Permanent Secretary of Small Business and Entrepreneurship in Barbados, Mr. Clement Williams, General Manager of the Saint Kitts Electric Company, Ms. Francine Baron, CEO of the Climate Resilience Execution Agency for Dominica, Mr. Joseph Williams, Coordinator of Renewable Energy/ Energy Efficiency at the Caribbean Development Bank, and Ms. Aria Laidlow, Youth Representative from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Programme Lead of the CARICOM Energy Unit, Dr. Devon Gardner offered closing remarks saying that although the region will need partnership to achieve its energy goals, the launch and operation of the PPF takes the region that much closer to the energy revolution.
