Energy Transition and Climate Change Congress
May 21, 2019 - May 23, 2019
The Ministry for Energy and Mining (MEM) of the Dominican Republic and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) are realizing the Project Energy Transition – Promotion of Renewable Energies to Reach the Climate Goals of the Dominican Republic, at the request of the German Federal Ministry of Environment, Nature Protection and Nuclear Security (BMU).
In October 2017, GIZ was commissioned by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) to implement the project “Climate Resilient and Sustainable Energy Supply in the Caribbean (Cli-RES)”. The BMZ funded project has an additional financial allocation (co-funding) for the “Technical Assistance Programme for Sustainable Energy in the Caribbean (TAPSEC)” from the European Union. Basis for the project is a Financing Agreement signed between the CARIFORUM Directorate and the European Union (EU), funded under the 11th European Development Fund (EDF). As CAREIFORUM project, the implementing partners of TAPSEC is the CARICOM Secretariat and the Ministry of Energy and Mines in the Dominican Republic. It is envisaged, that both projects, BMU ICI Energy Transition project and the BMZ/EU TAPSEC project would organize the Energy Transition Congress.
The congress would be with a parallel commercial renewable energies (RE) and energy efficiency fair organized by the Association for the Promotion of RE in the Dominican Republic (ASOFER), which will take place from May 21st to the 23rd. Additionally, we will hold a poster exhibition of projects of the different donors in the Caribbean energy sector.
